We are looking for a midwife in the Springfield area and would love some suggestions. A bonus would be someone willing to work with insurance, our company (Cigna) covers midwifery. Thanks for the help!

The family and friends of Suzann (Sue) Stephens would respectfully like to inform you of her death (after an intense fight with cancer) in Peoria, Illinois on September 30, 2011.
We are inviting all those who want to honor her memory to Sue’s “Celebration of Life” at the Missouri Botanical Gardens on October 22, 2011 starting at 12:30pm. The celebration will be held in the Lehman Rose Garden (ask at the desk for directions or if location in the Garden is changed due to inclement weather). Please wear comfortable clothes. Hello, I have a question for who ever has an answer! Im expecting my first baby at the end of March and have been working with a midwife I really like. We plan on birthing at home. It was suggested to me by my sister (who also just had a home birth) that I create a relationship with a back-up doctor at a nearby hospital in case of a transfer- that way they have my files and know my preferances before hand (also I would know how they work). I’ve called and called around trying to find a doctor who will do this and have been unsuccesful as of yet. Does anyone know of a hospital in St. Louis that will be a bit more flexible? Thanks!

Developing a relationship with a physician to utilize in the event of a transfer/transport is certainly an option you might want to pursue. I’ll send your information to the St. Louis coordinators, as I don’t work in that area. There are several Midwives to choose from in Springfield. I will pass along your information to the Springfield Area Coordinator, who should contact you within the next few days. I would also like to contact you privately, if you don’t mind, to discuss Cigna. I also have that insurance company and am currently working to get reimbursed for my Midwife’s fees.

Friends of Missouri Midwives does not currently have a listing of Midwives that is publicly available, although we are working on that for the future. Perhaps the Missouri Midwives Association might be able to better serve you. Here is their contact page: I hope that helps!

The next St. Charles meeting will be the fifth Tuesday this month (29th) and the third Tuesday in December (20). I do hope you are able to attend. Are you a “fan” of St. Charles FoMM on Facebook? Or the statewide group? All meeting times are announced there regularly.

I recently found out I am expecting my 2nd child. with my first I contacted someone within FOMM and they helped me find a midwife in my area. I ive in Southern IL but I am located very close to Cape Girardea MO. I was wondering ifthere was any way to talk to someone about midwives near me?
